The city is situated in a very picturesque place on the Dvina River.
It is 250 km far from Minsk, the capital of Belarus.
The landscapes around the city are very beautiful. There are a
lot of lakes with green wooded or grassy shores and nice holiday camps there. Polotsk has very
rich ancient history, it was the center of the ancient Slavic Polotsk Principality in Kievskaya
Rus. The are a lot of historical places and sights including 11 museums. St. Sophia Cahtedral
built in 11-th century is one of the most ancient cathedral in Slavic Russia and St. Ephrosinya
Church of the 12-th century. As for Novopolotsk it's a modern industrial city with oil-chemical
and biological enterprises, which are the biggest in our country. It is situated 10 km far from Polotsk. |
